Omicron has inevitably made its way into New Zealand communities.
- There could be widespread transmission as early as the next two weeks.
- We are likely to see a significant surge in cases from mid February –extending for 8-12 weeks.
- Vaccinated workers will still contract Omicron, however with lower health impacts (less time off work) and lower transmission rates (fewer close contacts isolating).
- The impact on a largely vaccinated workforce will be increased absenteeism for front line workers and potential disruption to material and service supply chains as secondary workers also go absent.
